Interior Design: 3 Year Diploma
The Academy of Design’s three-year Diploma in Interior Design is registered with the Private Career College Unit of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities as a separate program which may be entered after successful completion of the two-year diploma program in interior design, or post-graduation to a maximum of five years of practical experience following graduation from the two-year foundation program. Entry is also open to Interior Design students in interior design studies with equivalent credits for transfer from other institutions.
The third-year studio design project consists of a three-term practicum project selected by the student in consultation with a faculty advisor. The program focuses on research and studio work to accomplish a capstone thesis project with support courses that add to the graduate’s range of knowledge at the senior level. Students work on a project of sufficient size and extent to provide complexity and breadth of scope in interior design theory and application. The topic is reviewed with faculty to generate a project that is manageable and challenging within the time available. Parallel courses lead to increased technical ability in AutoCAD presentation techniques and other industry related software applications. An internship requirement articulates the transition for students into the professional field. Students are aided and encouraged to seek placement and mentoring in a professional office in the industry segment of their practicum topic and are evaluated by practitioners who monitor and mentor the student in their work environment.
A total of 45 quarter-credits of general education courses in addition to the course specific study are required for graduation. (Note that History of Art Courses in the Foundation program are general education subjects and account for 9 credits). Credits may be transferred from another institution.
