Rounding out Summer With a Few Good BID Reads: Guest Blog By Erin Melvin, Acting Chair of the BID at RCC

It’s the dog days of summer and I hope you will find some free time for pleasure reading with a purpose! I have a handful of recommended reads for all of our Bachelor of Interior Design students here at RCC Institute of Technology.

These articles reveal why our profession is so very important, and how shaping the built environment beyond materiality and aesthetic appeal, and understanding the human connection within any interior, is essential in developing a successful design solution.  The impact of design on the human experience is constantly being exposed, highlighting our importance and significance as a discipline.

Or, perhaps you are looking to get out and about during these last few weeks of summer? One of our adjunct faculty, Afsaneh Vollmer, has some of her works exhibited in various locations this summer.

Headwaters Arts gallery at Alton Mills Art Centre until August 14 and I have a solo show coming up at the Millcroft Inn spa from first of September to the end of October.

Finally, mark your calendars as there are a few things on the horizon for fall.

RCCIT BID students will be partaking in the annual IDEC Student Competition September 18-October 7.  Three finalist projects will be sent in and judged on a regional, national and international level.

Then, here at our Steeles Campus on October 5, there will be a student meet & greet from noon-1 p.m, followed by a lunch lecture from 1-2 p.m.

Erin Melvin is the Acting Chair of the Bachelor of Interior Design at RCC Institute of Technology and she is also a graduate of that program. Read more about Erin here.
