On November 29th, RCC Institute of Technology’s on-campus students in the Bachelor of Interior Design’s GES450 and GE171 visited the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto. There, we viewed an amazing exhibit Mystical Landscapes: Masterpieces from Monet, Van Gogh and More.
With many artworks from Paris’ Musee d’Orsay and the AGO’s collection, the paintings explore Modernism and the changing Western art world from the turn of the 20th Century. Thirty-seven artists from 14 countries were chosen highlighting key paintings such as Gauguin’s Vision of the Sermon (Jacob Wrestling with the Angel)(oil, 1888) and Monet’s Water Lilies (Nympheas) (oil, 1907).
Our art history students had the opportunity to teach their peers on-site about Impressionism and Post-Impressionism and the Design and Society students investigated the design of the exhibit and the flow and needs of the art patrons.
This is an excellent opportunity to gaze upon transformative artwork that challenged and inspired viewers in the past and will do again today. Housed in the wonderfully redesigned AGO by Frank Gehry, the packed exhibit will be running until January 29, 2017. Check out more info here.
