FAQs: General Questions about RCC Institute of Technology

Where is RCC Institute of Technology?

RCC Institute of Technology operates out of two campuses in Ontario, the Steeles Avenue Campus (click here for map) and the Davisville Campus (click here for map).  For a detailed lest of Degree and Diploma options please contact the Admissions Office.

Where is RCC Institute of Technology Accredited?

RCC Institute of Technology received Ministerial Consent in Ontario, in 2004, to offer Bachelor of Technology (Electronics Engineering Technology) BT(EET) and Bachelor of Technology (Computer Information Systems) BT(CIS). This consent, the first provided to an independent, non-secular institution in Ontario, was the result of a review process conducted by the Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board as established by the Postsecondary Education Choice and Excellence Act (2000).

Full details about the rigour of the review process in Ontario and the standards by which the Institute’s programs were judged by the Ontario Post-Secondary Education Quality Assurance Board are available at the PEQAB website: http://peqab.edu.gov.on.ca/.

RCC Institute of Technology’s Electronics Engineering Technology programs are fully accredited by both the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB) and the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).

These bodies evaluate applied science and engineering technology programs at educational agencies for the purpose of identifying whether they meet the profession’s approved standards and criteria.

What programs does RCC Institute of Technology offer?

    RCC offers the following programs:

Can I get my “iron ring,” and eventually become a Professional Engineer upon graduating from RCC Institute of Technology?

Yes, there are two way in which RCC graduates can earn their “iron ring,” and work toward the Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation.

    1) Students completing the RCC Electronics Engineering Technology Diploma are able to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering or Software Engineering in as little as 2 years at Lakehead University. Lakehead University offers three years’ credit toward their 5 year Electrical Engineering or Software Engineering program for graduates of these diplomas. It is therefore possible for an RCC graduate to earn an engineering degree in less than 4 years (less time than is normally required to receive the degree itself). Graduates of Lakehead University’s Engineering programs receive an “iron ring,” and have the opportunity to achieve the designation of Professional Engineer (P.Eng) as defined by the Professional Engineers Act.

    2) RCC Institute of Technology’s bachelor of technology graduates (electronics engineering technology) will be able to complete their Masters and have the option of applying for Ph.D. studies in two years after completing the Summer Transition Program. The program is also designed to meet PEO’s academic requirements, that can lead to the designation of Professional Engineer (P.Eng). Graduates with a GPA of 3.5 or greater qualify for admission to Lakehead University’s M.Sc. in Control Engineering or a M.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (pending OCGS approval). Many students are also awarded scholarships of $8000 upon entering Lakehead’s Masters Program.

What are the advantages of earning a Diploma and a Bachelor’s Degree at the same time?

There are several advantages to combining a career focused Diploma with the theory oriented Bachelor’s Degree.  Diploma programs provide students with practical skills that help them hit the ground running in their careers.  The main focus of a  Bachelor’s Degree program is to develop a student’s ability to research, think critically and communicate.  Many companies require an employee to possess a Bachelor’s Degree in order to be considered for senior-level management positions.  A Diploma will show an employer that you are an excellent person to hire, while a Bachelor’s Degree demonstrates that you have the potential to grow within the company.  For an RCC graduate, that “growth potential” means higher salaries and a greater amount of exciting career opportunites.
